Will you be remembered?

I recall a scene from the Hollywood movie ‘Troy’ in which a boy who was sent to fetch Achilles (starred by Brad Pitt) for battle said to him, “The Thessalonian you are about to fight is the largest man I have ever seen, I wouldn’t want to fight him”. In response, Achilles said, “That’s why no one will remember your name”.  The message from that statement hit me like a lightning bolt. No person is remembered for just having lived, people are remembered for what they have done.

TIME AND CHANCE

“I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happens to them all”. Ecclesiastes 9:11

10 years after 9/11: Life lessons

10 years ago, on this day, the world witnessed the 9/11 attacks on New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost. It revealed firsthand the level of man’s inhumanity to man.  Needless to state, the world has never remained the same since that day.

Finish what you started

I am pretty sure you are familiar with the phrase ‘New year resolution’. Am I right to assume that you have had several of them over the years? Am I also right to assume that the chances are, you did not keep some (or as the case may be, many) of those resolutions you made? Is it also true that on some of these occasions, you started doing the things you resolved to do, but somehow did not finish them? If you answered yes to these questions, then you are not alone. Today’s blog is about helping you to change that trend.

Building your credibility profile.

Imagine this scenario for a minute. You have a job to contract out and there are 2 bidders. One of the bidders is very experienced, has done similar jobs several times before and has a good track record. The other bidder has only newly established his business, has the relevant training and skill on paper, but does not have any previous experience in the area of your interest. Which of these two people are you likely to contract the job to? I suppose the answer is obvious. All things being equal, you are very likely to contract the job to the more experienced bidder. Why?

Adversity: It’s all part of the package (2)

Hello and welcome to another success plus blog. My aim in today’s blog is to conclude the write-up on 'Adversity: It’s all part of the package', which I started 3 weeks ago. To recap, I explored how adversity is part of the package called success. I stressed that the most important lesson to learn from adversity is the attitude adversity develops in you. I also discussed how adversity can be an opportunity. Today, I want to discuss 2 further lessons that can be learnt from adversity.

A life that counts

"Life is not measured by the number of breathes we take, but by the moments that take our breath away". George Calin “Teach us how short our lives are so that we can become wise”. Psalms 90:12 I celebrated my birthday just a few days ago. As is my custom, I took the opportunity to reflect on my life as a whole in the past year. Today, I want to share with you some of the products of that reflection; my thoughts on what makes a life count.

Adversity: It’s all part of the package

Do you feel as if life has been most unfair to you? Do you feel like you very easily move from one problem to another? Are you currently in a most unpleasant situation that seems insurmountable?  If any or all of these questions apply to you, then you are in good company. Adversity is one thing everyone has to contend with. It is part of the package called life, and very much an integral part of the package of success. I want to share a story(courtesy of storiesfortrainers.com) which I think very well  sums up the issue of adversity and what it makes of different  people.
